The long path of Cyclone Freddy

Depending on the region, other terms are us for these weather systems. Due to the proximity to the Atlantic! the term hurricane is probably the most common in our country. This is us for both the Atlantic and the eastern Pacific! In the western Pacific, tropical cyclones are call typhoons, while in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean the storms are known as “cyclones”.

Unusually long track
It has been almost two weeks since the tropical depression “Frdy” strengthen into a tropical cyclone of category 2 in the warm waters between the north coast of Australia and the southern islands of Indonesia. After a temporary weaker phase on February 9, the storm strengthen permanently into a strong cyclone with average wind spes of over 200 km/h in some places.

Guid by the eastern flow of the subtropical high pressure poland phone number library belt, “Frdy” mov straight west and is currently locat just north of Mauritius. The storm has thus already travel well over 6,000 km. This is unusual, because very specific atmospheric conditions are necessary for the formation and maintenance of a tropical cyclone (warm water surface and constant moisture supply, no large land areas, little wind shear).

Incidentally, the longest track to date was that of cyclone Leon-Eline, which cover practically the same distance as Frdy in February 2000. After crossing Madagascar, it mov across southern Africa almost to Namibia. In contrast to Frdy, however, the storm only had the intensity of a tropical storm over large stretches and not a tropical cyclone (see info box above).

Cyclone «Leon-Eline» record the longest track effectively driving the desir action of a tropical cyclone, over 11,000 km. Blueish dots indicate a storm force of less than 119 km/h. (Source: Wikipia)
forecast for the coming days
Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 21st, “Frdy” will hit the southern awb directory half of Madagascar and will cause hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall in a short space of time. As a result, the forecast is still uncertain. The cyclone will probably hit the south coast of Mozambique in a significantly weaker form, but with a lot of rainfall. It is noteworthy that this region has already seen far too much rain in recent weeks.
